Private Residence

West Arm Bay, Lake Minnetonka

Without knowing differently, this home, built by Stonewood LLC, could be easily mistaken for a lodge situated in the European countryside.  Liberal use of stone horizontally across the front exterior, and on the face of a tall, vertical gabled wall balances the steep cedar roof and establishes a sense of timelessness to this residence.  At the entry, uninterrupted light slices through from front to rear issuing an irresistible invitation to step inside.

The same exterior stone is used generously throughout the interior – in two complementary fireplaces in the great room and dining room,  in the sunroom fireplace, and again in the lower level bar, family room, and wine cellar, imparting an unmistakable impression of permanence to the interior.  Metal touches and ironwork play an important supportive role in creating an old world lodge atmosphere and can be found in the balusters,  embellishments on the granite island and range hood, as mantelpieces on two fireplaces, and prominently in the wine cellar.   A lofty barrel ceiling in the great room accommodates two-story arched windows, but flat portions positioned over the seating area contain the volume to create an intimate space.
